Leadership Academy on leadership in the
community
The Valpo Chamber Leadership Academy encourages
individuals to be trustees of their community –
to work for the common good – and to become a
leader for the entire community. The program
uniquely focuses on connection and engagement in
community service – specifically, leadership
roles.
The mission of the Valpo Chamber
Leadership Academy is to provide a growing pool
of volunteer leaders for current and future
civic, charitable, and governmental
organizations in Valparaiso.
The Academy complements
other leadership organizations with a focused
training on the skills and knowledge necessary
to be an effective leader in the community; for
example, expectations of board service,
governance, understanding financial statements,
fundraising, ethics, accountability, and time
management. However, the Valpo Chamber
Leadership Academy is not just about training.
At the end of the program, participants are
expected to become engaged with community
organizations in leadership roles.

Attorneys/Legal Services
On June 16, Burke Costanza & Cuppy LLP celebrated
the opening of their new Valparaiso facility with a
Ribbon Cutting, Open House, and Business
After Hours celebration.
Formerly located on Franklin Street, the
firm relocated to the Washington Street
address due to the need for more space. The
new office has more than tripled the firm’s
available work area from 3,000 square feet
to 9,500 square feet. Erected in 1910, the
building has been part of the Valparaiso
business district for almost 100 years,
originally housing the E.E. Cunningham
Veterinary Sanitarium. In 1998, it was
converted to accommodate the Trust Service
Department of the First National Bank of
Valparaiso. While the traditional
architecture has been preserved and
enhanced, by contrast, the interior has been
completely renovated, featuring sleek modern
offices and a state-of-the-art conferencing
center. Founded in 1928, BCC is a
full-service law firm with offices in
Merrillville, as well as Valparaiso.
Practice areas include Business Law, Estate
Planning and Probate Administration,
Mediation and Arbitration, Family Law, Civil
Litigation, Commercial Law, Construction and
Real Estate Law, Healthcare, Employment Law,

DETECTING &
DETERRING FRAUD IN SMALL BUSINESS It seems as
though a new scam comes to light everyday,
doesn't it?
Phishing, 419s, spoofing,
and other exotic new
words are constantly finding their way into our
everyday vocabularies. But
if you examine these
electronic-media-inspired frauds, you'll soon
find that they are just
variations on old,
low-tech themes. Click here to read article
