It was a gift in memory of a pioneer Valparaiso surgeon that led to the creation of the Porter county hospital in Valparaiso 60 years ago. Today that hospital has evolved into Porter Health System – a network of health care organizations serving Porter, LaPorte, Jasper, Newton, Pulaski, and Lake Counties. The health system includes two hospitals, more than 9 physician practices, a medical staff of over 300 physicians representing over 50 specialties, a sleep disorders institute, two outpatient surgery centers, three large outpatient medical centers, and more.

At Porter Health System, patients come first. Porter’s mantra is to consistently deliver medical excellence and patient-centered care in every facility. This, coupled with its commitment to evidence-based medicine has made the health system a leader in the delivery of medical care. Porter’s Valparaiso Hospital Campus offers the only Center for Heart Valve Disease in the region, the only Selective Internal Radiation Therapy for liver cancer treatment in the region, and the only minimally invasive hip replacement surgery using OSI technology in the region. Patients travel to Porter from beyond our region, including other states to receive some of these treatments.

In Fall 2012, Porter will open its large replacement medical center. This 260 bed hospital and attached Medical Office Building is situated in an easily accessible location at the intersection of Route 6 and SR 49 just north of Valparaiso. This regional referral center will boast all private rooms, a Cardiac &Vascular Institute, Orthopedic Institute with Spine Center and Joint Center, a luxurious obstetrics area called New Beginnings, and much more.
