Who is Citizens Financial Bank?
We’re a community bank headquartered in Munster, Indiana with 22 full service banking centers throughout Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana. So, what is a community bank, really? We have all the personal and business products that larger banks possess, but we care about the communities we serve. Our employees live in our communities and take great pride in helping the people we consider family, our clients.

Where did we come from?
In 1934 the FHLB Board approved the name “Citizens” as it was the citizens of the community who invested a total of $6,140 to start the new organization. Citizens has continued to grow and change. Over the years Citizens has acquired other institutions, opened new banking centers, and become publicly traded. There have been several name changes but Citizens has always been about the citizens of the communities we serve.

What have we done for the communities we serve?
Throughout our history Citizens has focused on our clients and our communities. In 1998 the Citizens Savings Foundation was formed for the purpose of identifying and supporting charitable and educational activities in all of our markets. Community involvement is part of the Citizens culture at every level within the Bank. Each year, Citizens employees participate in over 200 community events. People depend on us and we take their trust to heart. The billions of dollars invested in home loans, and the millions paid in interest on savings accounts certainly helped a large number of families attain financial security over the decades. Likewise, the millions of dollars contributed back to our communities in the form of cash donations and a rich history of volunteerism by the Citizens family of employees have left a significant impression on this region.

Where are we now?
Not only is the bank stable, but there is money to lend. Our capital position is strong. Citizens Financial Bank has 22 full service locations around Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana. We’re a community bank that’s been in business since 1934. That’s Personal, personal banking to each and every client for over three quarters of a century.
